Internet Advertising Overtakes TV

A study carried out by the Internet Advertising Bureau in conjunction with Price Waterhouse Coopers has revealed some remarkable trends in the first half of 2009:

    • Online advertising spend for the first half of 2009 was £1,752 million
    • The advertising industry as a whole shrank by almost 17% but internet advertising grew by 4.6%
    • Internet advertising is the only medium that grew in the first half of 2009
    • Internet advertising's share of the marketplace has grown to 23.5% compared to 18.7% for the same period last year

    Online advertising encompasses:

    1. paid for listings (pay per click advertising)
    2. Email marketing and targeted newsletters
    3. Exposure through major search engines by link building
