We’d like to congratulate James Hopkins who is celebrating 8 years at DBS Internet Marketing after joining us in 2011. James, who is originally from Somerset, joined us in 2011 as an Internet Marketing Assistant after studying at Lancaster University, working in the City of London as an Investor Relations Manager and later as a marketing coordinator for an independent school. James joined DBS at a pivotal time, helping to develop our social media and content marketing departs which he now heads up. Outside of work, James lives with his wife Kasia and their son Alex, who was born in 2014. James and his wife love animals and have a dog, two Siamese cats and several chickens. James’s interests outside of work include travelling, getting (rather than keeping!) fit, and good food. James also has a strong interest in current affairs and plays an active role in his local community having previously served as a local councilor. We’re very excited by some new updates available through Google Ads. The new changes to Google’s “Click To Message” capabilities are aimed at helping advertisers to get more conversions from their ads by encouraging actions from within searches. From what we’ve seen so far, they look like they could be very effective for our clients. What is “Click To Message”? “Click To Message” is a new extension for Google Ads that allows customers to send a text message (SMS) directly from a pay-per-click advert when it appears on their mobile phone. For example - a customer searching for hotels in London can now be presented with the option to not only click to phone the hotel to make their reservation, but also be presented with the option to send a text message instead – saving them precious time. With the number of people using mobile phones to access the internet predicted by Google to reach 6 billion by 2021 and approximately 65% of young consumers preferring to contact businesses through text or messaging, it seems like a smart option to provide consumers with this kind of flexibility. The new updates to “Click To Message” now mean that, rather than one of your team having to monitor a mobile phone for text messages, they can respond by email or through an automatic reply such as ‘Thanks for your enquiry. We’ll call you back shortly’. “Click To Message” is a great tool to improve your conversion rates. Time has finally been called on Google’s failed social media network Google+. While Google made their announcement in October, giving a deadline of August 2019, the date has now officially been locked in earlier than expected – on April 2nd 2019. Although the social network did successfully create a small number of engaged communities around certain topics and interests, it never quite managed to scale to the size of its competitors Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Snapchat, so now Google has decided to reluctantly pull the plug. What does this mean for your business?Google has explained that on April 2nd all Google+ accounts and Google+ pages will be shut down permanently and content will start to be removed - including photos and videos. So, if you have anything on there you need to save then you should do so immediately by clicking here. It’s also important that you remove any links to your Google+ button from your company website. The same goes for letterheads, business cards and anywhere else you might be directing people towards your individual or business G+ profiles.
