Everyone at DBS Internet Marketing is absolutely thrilled to have won the Employer of the Year Award at the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) Celebrating Business Awards 2019.DBS Directors Julie Priestley and David Clarke have been at the awards ceremony today (Thursday 14th March) at the Double Tree by Hilton Gateway Hotel in Nottingham, where they were very proud to collect the trophy and be named as Employer of the Year for the whole East Midlands Area. Having won the area award, DBS will now go forward to the UK national final, which will take place on 23rd May at Evolution Battersea, and is considered to be one of the highlights of the small business calendar. DBS became an Employee Owned Business in June 2017 when Director David Clarke announced that members of the DBS team would now own a part of the long established internet marketing and web design company. David’s decision made DBS Lincolnshire’s first 100% employee owned company. David said at the time: “For me, it makes great business sense to reward the very people that have helped to build DBS. Now that the whole team has equity, we have a vested interest to grow the company even more.” According to the FSB website, “the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards recognise the best small businesses and the self-employed from right across the UK, from every sector and industry and from businesses of all ages and all sizes.
The awards are the leading celebration of small businesses, shining a light on some of the best, most innovative and most determined smaller businesses.”DBS has been an Investors in People company since 2004, and has recently won a number of other awards, including the North Kesteven Community Business Award 2017, the FSB Entrepreneur Award for Innovation 2017, and the FSB East Midlands Community Business Award 2018. We are chuffed to add this accolade to these today.
DBS is celebrating this week after coming home winners from the prestigious FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards. The FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards celebrates smaller businesses and are a chance for those businesses to shine, stand out from the crowd and make their mark within their geographical area. DBS took home the ‘Community Business of the Year’ award for the entire East Midlands area, an award which looks to honour those businesses who “partake in initiatives that support their local community or makes a positive impact through employee led activities”. The ceremony took place at the Doubletree by Hilton in Nottingham on Thursday 8th February and was attended by DBS Director, David Clarke. DBS is proud of its corporate social responsibility programme (CSR) contributing locally and internationally to worth causes. In recent years DBS has been involved with community led projects such as the Navenby and Cliff Villages Business Network and the popular Christmas In Navenby event. DBS also provides website support to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and local charity, Star Trust. Forging strong bonds with local schools and universities, DBS has also been involved in mentoring schemes at the University of Lincoln, Bishop Grosseteste University and with the Mission Mentor scheme, as well as providing work experience opportunities for students at the Priory Academy LSST and Sir William Robertson Academy. Last year, DBS gave back to its own employees by becoming Lincolnshire’s first Employee Owned Company, a move which drew praise from FSB Judges for it’s “ambitious model”. Members of the DBS team spent two days at the Lincolnshire Show last week, where we had a stand in the Greater Lincolnshire & Peterborough Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) marquee.
Julie and James on Wednesday and Matt and Dan on Thursday spent the day networking with other Lincolnshire business owners.
The team was delighted on the first day to be awarded the Doug Balderson Agriculture Entrepreneur Award for Innovation by the FSB, who interviewed all the FSB businesses exhibiting at the event. The judges were particularly interested in hearing about how DBS recently became an employee owned company. Julie is pictured receiving the award at the show.
The Lincolnshire Show is one of the leading shows in the county, and this year was the 133rd show.
