banish your google buttonTime has finally been called on Google’s failed social media network Google+. While Google made their announcement in October, giving a deadline of August 2019, the date has now officially been locked in earlier than expected – on April 2nd 2019. Although the social network did successfully create a small number of engaged communities around certain topics and interests, it never quite managed to scale to the size of its competitors Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Snapchat, so now Google has decided to reluctantly pull the plug. What does this mean for your business?Google has explained that on April 2nd all Google+ accounts and Google+ pages will be shut down permanently and content will start to be removed - including photos and videos. So, if you have anything on there you need to save then you should do so immediately by clicking here. It’s also important that you remove any links to your Google+ button from your company website. The same goes for letterheads, business cards and anywhere else you might be directing people towards your individual or business G+ profiles. For assistance removing your Google+ button please contact us at enquiries@dbsinternetmarketing.co.uk or call us on Freephone 0800 988 8366.

Is your site HTTPS compliant yet?

clip_image002Google Chrome – the internet’s favourite web browser – has begun labelling websites that have failed to upgrade to HTTPS as ‘unsecure’. Google gave webmasters six months notice of the change which has been rolled out as part of the new Google Chrome 68 browser and means that websites that have failed to upgrade are now given a ‘not secure’ tag viewable to anyone who visits their website. If your business has as of yet failed to make the switch, then we highly recommend that you get in touch so that we can help you migrate from HTTP to HTTPS as soon as possible as we anticipate unsecure websites will receive both a drop-in web traffic and a fall in search engine rankings. Please call us today on 0800 988 8366 to discuss your next steps.

Most people are familiar with the page layout when they make a search on Google. There are 3 types of listing which are also shown on the graphic: 1. pay per click 2. mapped 3. organic   clip_image002    Pay Per Click and mapped listings dominate the page. If you manage to nab the #1 organic spot on Google your prospects have to scroll all the way down the page to get to you. There's no doubt that Pay Per Click advertising is effective but it comes at a cost whereas mapped listings are free.   How do I get a mapped listing? Google compiles mapped listings from data it holds. Google scrapes its mapped listing data from several places. One key place is your "Google My Business" page. The best way to give Google accurate information is for your business to claim your Google My Business page and make sure all your details are correct.   What are the common mistakes businesses make with their Google My Business pages? Your mapped listing will have a red "blob" which appears on Google maps:   clip_image004   Make sure it's in the right place. It's not uncommon for business to be shown in the wrong place. Many businesses claim their Google My Business page successfully but then fail to edit it fully. You can easily add your address, phone number, opening hours and images.   clip_image006   How can I get my business to rank highly in the mapped listings? We've seen improvements in ranking for clients who: · have a fully completed Google My Business page · post on their Google My Business page regularly · ensure that reputable directories have the exact same information as on the Google My Business page · ask their customers to leave reviews  This might seem like a lot to do but the rewards are free traffic.
