DBS has proudly worked with local schools for over 10 years to arrange work experience placements for students, helping to better prepare them for the world of employment. Alfie Cornish is the latest pupil from nearby school Sir William Robertson Academy to spend a week at DBS’s Navenby based office. Alfie has spent time shadowing staff, working on web design, pay-per-click and social media projects to give him an insight into the world of online marketing. “We’ve been very pleased with Alfie’s performance and have enjoyed having him with us for the week.” commented DBS Director, David Clarke.
DBS Internet Marketing had a fantastic day at the Lincolnshire Business Expo yesterday. Four members of the DBS team – David, Julie, James and Amy – met and chatted with many different people from a wide range of different businesses from across the county. The Lincolnshire Business Expo is the largest B2B event in Greater Lincolnshire.
Business Lincolnshire has unveiled a new grants programme for SMEs who are looking to grow their business. £4 million of EU funding has been earmarked for Greater Lincolnshire. One of the areas that Business Lincolnshire is keen to pinpoint is how to make Lincolnshire SMEs more digitally capable which could include developing a firm online marketing strategy. "If you can demonstrate that investment in your company will create new jobs or significantly increase your turnover you may be able to access a grant to part fund the activity" said Toni O'Brien, a Business Growth Adviser with Business Lincolnshire. "This is brilliant news for Greater Lincolnshire SMEs" commented DBS director David Clarke, "I would urge all DBS's Lincolnshire clients to have a short chat with me about their growth plans and I can then quickly pass you on to Toni O'Brien to see if your firm can access the £4 million funding".
We recently held our first ever Parents & Partners Evening at our offices in Navenby. The aim of the evening was for team members to share what they do at DBS Internet Marketing with parents, partners and family and show what makes DBS different. "When you think about it, you probably spend more time with work colleagues than with your partners or close family," explained Director, David Clarke. "It's natural that you talk about work at home and I wanted people to able to put a face to the name." Mums, dads and partners were invited to sit down for a one to one with David who talked about how team members are getting on and where DBS is going. "While trying to avoid sounding like a headmaster it was important to me to give feedback to parents and partners about how proud I am of the DBS team and how important our people are to us," said David Clarke. Guests were treated to a buffet and Prosecco. The youngest person attending was Alex, the two and a half year old son of Online Marketing Manager James Hopkins. The first thing he said to his dad the following morning when he woke up was “Hello Daddy, I had a lovely day yesterday at work with all your friends. Let’s do it again!”
Our General Manager, Julie Priestley, has reached a fantastic milestone, having worked at DBS for a decade and a half this month. Julie joined DBS in October 2001 and has seen the company change and grow from a print based Yellow Pages marketing company to a web design, internet marketing and social media business. Julie was promoted in February this year to the position of General Manager. She also manages DBS’s pay per click advertising and retargeting accounts along with our printed marketing clients. She is a Google Adwords Professional and a Bing Ads Accredited Professional. Speaking about Julie, DBS Director David Clarke said: “Congratulations to Julie on her 15th year at DBS along with a heartfelt thank you for her loyalty, integrity and hard work.”
DBS General Manager Julie Priestley took part in the Pretty Muddy Race for Life on Saturday 1st October to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The 5km obstacle course run took place at the Lincolnshire Showground, and was the first of its kind to take place in Lincolnshire. Speaking after the race, Julie said: “I find these events really inspiring – to see so many women of all different fitness levels coming together for such a worthy cause. Thankfully the weather was perfect, and looking across the field it was just a sea of pink, with lots and lots of people taking part. We all got very muddy, and it was hard but fun. But for me, the Race for Life isn’t about the event itself, it’s about the cause.” Julie decided to take part in the Race for Life shortly after her uncle was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas. Sadly he lost his fight with the disease just before Julie took part in the event. Many families find themselves in the same situation as Julie’s, as it is now estimated that 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime, so even if you don’t have it, there is a very high chance that someone close to you will at some point. Cancer Research UK pioneers life-saving cancer research to help beat cancer sooner .They are the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. They fight cancer on all fronts, finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it to save more lives. But they need help to keep doing so, as they are entirely funded by the public. Julie has so far raised a fantastic £380 for this incredible charity, but is aiming to raise £1,000, so still has a long way to go. If you would like to help beat cancer sooner there is still time to make a donation, and any amount, big or small, would be very much appreciated. Donating is easy and can be done online via Julie’s JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Pretty-Muddy-Julie Some photos of Julie taking part on the day are included below!

We had a very nice surprise at DBS when Jonathan Worthington of Greenfrog Entertainments Ltd sent the team a fantastic treat from Hotel Chocolat. Jonathan came to us before Christmas as he wanted to improve the online marketing for his Bouncy Castle Hire business that covers Mansfield, Lincoln and Nottingham. The speedily devoured chocolates came with a card to DBS that read: "All your team have been amazing over the past 6 months. Our phones ring each day with new sales enquires and my business is starting to grow. I would like to say thank you to everyone for all their help so far - Jonathan" Dan Atkinson who helps to manage Jonathan's account commented: "It's always great to hear we are helping our clients' businesses to grow but receiving such a thoughtful gift was a special surprise."
